Janet L. Gold

President, Eisenberg, Gold & Agrawal, P.C.

What inspired you to join/start your business?

As a young attorney, my mentor Bill Eisenberg made me a partner in his firm and I soon became the managing partner. I always enjoyed managing the firm and enjoy working with the staff.

We have grown substantially over the last 2 years and now have 9 attorneys.

What challenges have you faced as a woman entrepreneur and how did you overcome them?

Obtaining clients in the field in which we practice, primarily creditor's rights and real estate was a challenge as a woman since the businesses we represent tend to be male dominated. I found that working hard and being responsive to my clients led to a very good reputation and I was able to attract business by word of mouth.

What was your most satisfying moment in your career?

I can't really think of one satisfying moment, but having success for my clients and getting them the results they need is always satisfying.

How do you define success?

Having a satisfied client at the end of a transaction or litigation.

What’s the best piece of career advice you’ve ever received?

Return phone calls and reply to e-mails promptly.

What women inspire you and why?

My grandmother for one. She came to this country at 13-years-old not speaking the language, later married my grandfather and they had several successful businesses together.

What advice would you give to other women entrepreneurs?

Communication is key. Listening to and understanding what your client is looking for and giving them the appropriate guidance is important.

Describe yourself in three words.

Compassionate, thoughtful and motivated

Fill in the Blank:

  • When I face a challenge, I... work even harder.

  • If I could go back in time, I would tell myself… to travel more.

  • The one thing I couldn’t live without is… the ability to travel.

  • By this time next year, I will be…in Europe (I hope).

  • The best thing that happened to me last week was… playing with my new puppy .

  • To get my creative juices flowing, I… brainstorm with others.
